In Los Angeles, we see the gangster who threatened Michael in Utah sitting in his car with his girlfriend, Bunny. She leaves the car to smoke when suddenly there's a bright light. Bunny turns to the car and sees Joey is dead, his body burnt. When the police arrive, they find the license plate number of Max's car, which prompts a visit to Michael's apartment from a local deputy.

Max doesn't recognize Ferrini's photo, but Michael does, though he doesn't say so in front of the deputy, who asks why Ferrini would have Max's plate number in his car. Max explains he hasn't owned the car for more than a few months, so it might have nothing to do with him. The deputy warns that he'll be watching him and leaves. Michael tells Max that he knows who the dead man is.

Max and Liz discuss Ferrini's death. He was killed the same way Nasedo killed people, Max suspects another shapeshifter is out there, trying to keep him from the ship. Kyle and Liz go to the nursing home. Liz thinks they could film their project with one of the people living there. They find Valenti Sr. sitting on his bed amongst a mess of trash and food, zoned out. On his calendar a date is circled from when Kyle's father last visited over a year ago. Liz tries to talk to him, and he grabs her arm and says cryptically, "They are among us."

As Max drives into LA, Liz calls with a theory about how to find the shapeshifter. Nasedo always returned to one main form, so perhaps the shifting is only temporary. Max arrives at the cemetery for Ferrini's funeral and is approached by his agent, who gives him his card.

Isabel calls him to tell him about their mother, and that she and Michael don't approve of this trip, does he even have a plan? He goes to Ferrini's agent to find out more. Joey played a lot of hitmen, but Jules didn't book his Utah gig. Jules wants to make Max a star, and spots top producer Kal Langley. While Jules goes to talk to him, Max looks up Joey's address in Jules' PDA.

Liz thinks they can get the shapeshifter's base form by looking at the dailies of the film, which should be in the film vaults of Paramount. Dropping Bunny off at home, Max tells her to forget everything, her life depends on it.

Jim goes to visit his father. At first he feels awkward and tries to run out, but then he turns and goes back. His father is trying to mark today's date on the calendar. Jim says they can mark today, then tomorrow when he comes to visit again.

Coming out of his audition, Max tells Jules he wants to look around. He finds the film vault and calls Liz. She's afraid he might be in danger and tells him to hurry. He finds the dailies and uses his powers to project them, and sees the clapper loader is Kal, the producer. His phone cuts out and Kal comes out, throwing Max against the wall and setting fire to the vault with Max unconscious on the floor. To be continued...
